Huawei

Covers Huawei phones and tablets on EMUI and HarmonyOS that still expose the standard Android debugging bridge. Note that newer Huawei devices do not ship Google Play services, which is relevant to Play-distributed companions but not to the recovery workflow itself.

Developer options

  1. Settings, then search for "About" and open About phone / About tablet (the wording changes with the software version).
  2. Tap the software version entry seven times until the phone offers to enable Developer options; HarmonyOS 5 and later ask you to confirm and restart.
  3. Developer options then appears under Settings > System on most builds; the Settings search box finds it if it has moved.

USB debugging

  1. Open Developer options and enable USB debugging (consumer.huawei.com/au/support/content/en-gb15594059/).
  2. If the toggle will not stay on, Huawei's own support article says to disable "Allow connection via HDB" first, then enable USB debugging (consumer.huawei.com/en/support/content/en-us15501672/).
  3. Huawei also documents enabling "Allow ADB debugging in charge only mode" alongside USB debugging when the switch will not enable while the phone is connected to a computer (consumer.huawei.com/ca/support/content/en-us00407281/).

That second and third step is the vendor extra for Huawei. It is the most common reason a Huawei phone appears connected but never reaches device state.

Windows USB driver

Huawei's support site hosts its own tooling and driver bundle through HiSuite: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/hisuite/. Google's OEM driver table links Huawei's support landing page, https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/, rather than a direct driver file (checked 2026-10-12; the OEM-table address redirects to that landing page).

Huawei support also notes that third-party tools may not connect even with USB debugging on, which is why the phone-authorized path through adb rather than HiSuite is what this recovery tool uses.
